      1. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) isorganising the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2023 from 9 th September to 15 th September 2023 in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment,Trade and Industry (MITI) and three agencies under MITI, namely Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Halal Development Corporation (HDC) and Departmentof Standards Malaysia (DSM).

      2. The 13 th Halal Certification Bodies Convention (HCBC), is one of the three (3) main events that will be organised by JAKIM inconjunctionwith the GHaS 2023 from September 9 to September 11 at Pullman Hotel KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. This Convention is intended to providea forum for the annual meetings between JAKIM and the recognised International CB which was initially started in 2006. Hitherto, JAKIM has recognised 84 CBs from 47 countries. These recognised certification bodies are in charge of determining the halal status of rawmaterials,food products, critical ingredients, meat, and other animal-based goods that will be exported to Malaysia.

      3. This program is participated by international delegation srepresenting JAKIM Recognised International Halal Certification Bodies,Halal Authorities from OIC Countries, Industry Players and/ State Islamic Religious Council (MAIN) and State Islamic Religious Departmen t(JAIN). This year, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) of Saudi Arabia and the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH) of Indonesia are among the authorities participated in this program. Bothofthem have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with Malaysia's government to mutually recognise domestic products certified by their respective countries.

      4. Our second program is the Global Halal Industry Congress(GHIC),which is a forum to bring together International CBs and halal industryplayers in Malaysia in order to understand the reality of industrial and  halal management in the countries involved. This congress is the first of its sort to be organised during GHaS 2023.

      5. For the first time in its history, GHaS 2023 will also host theHalal Technical Committee Meeting of Unofficial Annual Meeting of the Religious Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS). This will be the platformof discussion among MABIMS members about halal-related issues while exchanging their experiences and information in order to improve their cooperation and strengthen halal coordination among member state.

      6. I am delighted to inform that all of these programs will encouragethe exchange of valuable knowledge and experiences between countries.The events will feature 17 presenters and 4 (four) forum panel lists from within and outside the country in discussing halal current affairsaswell as its challenges, trade barriers and issues on integrity.

      7. Apart from that, MITI will also be hosting other momen to use ventsthat will be held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, from 12 th to 15 th September 2023, as follows:

        1. Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) organised by MATRADE;
        2. Halal Profession Seminar organised by JSM; and
        3. Halal Sectoral Forum organised by HDC.
      8. I am also pleased to inform that Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will deliver a speech and officiate the opening ceremony of GHaS 2023 on the 12th September 2023.

      9. Thus, I sincerely hope that the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2023 will be able to signify unity among Malaysia's halal certification bodies that will enhance Malaysia's reputation as the global halal leader. This is proof of the government's endeavour to boost Malaysia's halal economywhile showing its continuous commitment to uphold Malaysia as a leader in the halal industry at the global level.
